Engineered Construction Products, Ltd. is a service oriented company engaged in the promotion, marketing, sales, fabrication and installation of windows, storefronts, curtain walls and related products for commercial and monumental construction.
The Company was incorporated in the State of Maryland in December 1975 by President Karl A. Barron. From first year sales of $112,000 and one employee, the Company has grown to over thirty employees with gross sales in 1999 of over $6,000,000.
Corporate headquarters are maintained at 13313-C Wolfsville Road in Smithsburg, Maryland, where all engineering, fabrication, and administration functions are conducted in a 17,000 square foot facility.
Sales are primarily done on a contract basis, obtained for the most part through competitive bidding and negotiations with general contractors. The company also helps develop its own market through services to construction managers, owners and architects. Services to these professionals consist of design, preliminary details, budget pricing and specification writing.
The company also serves contractors mainly as a subcontractor and a source of supply, but is also called upon for budget pricing, value engineering and job site troubleshooting. The Company also contracts directly with owners as General Contractor on projects that are primarily window related.
At inception, the Company entered into agreements with a variety of manufacturers to promote their products. In return, the Company became sole distributor to contractors and other users in the market area. During that period, the Company's main undertaking was in prefabricated metal windows and related products with heavy involvement in the retrofit market.
In 1982 the Company started manufacturing its own fixed window systems for use primarily in the multistory office building market that was flourishing during the 1980s. ECP designed, tested and currently owns the dies to twelve custom window systems. To date, these products have generated approximately four million dollars in sales allowing the Company to acquire the tools, equipment, and experience for erecting over 100 stories of windows and curtain wall of its own design and manufacture.
Today the Company does a mix of office construction, schools, and institutional buildings. New construction and retrofit window products produced by national manufacturers comprise the bulk of sales volume. In addition, sizable amounts of curtain wall, storefront products, and windows are fabricated and assembled in-house. As example, in 1996 ECP designed and manufactured 800 custom windows for a Washington D.C. office building.
Over the last two decades, ECP has acquired a wide range of project experience, successfully completing jobs as diverse as window walls for a new 14-story office tower ($950,000) to replacing over $1,000,000 worth of windows in a school during the three month summer shutdown to completion of a $2,400,000 combination curtain wall, storefront, and window project in 13 months.
ECP markets throughout the four state area of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. All promotion and sales are handled by the Company directly. The Company maintains a well-canvassed market area and emphasizes service to meet the demands of manufacturers, specifying engineers, and users alike. The Company limits business to projects requiring engineering knowledge and expertise in product selection, design, and application. All products are either custom sized or custom extruded and manufactured for each project.
Through construction reports, the Company stays informed of all planned and ongoing projects in the market area. In addition, our growing reputation has prompted construction users, who were not previously company clients, to request quotes on their projects.
Our credibility and stability, product knowledge and diverse experience has prompted many architects and owners to request our involvement in their projects.
ECP's strong standing with quality vendors and its ever increasing banking and bonding relationships portends for continued solid growth and enhancement of our position in the marketplace.
